I want to vote early.
How does this work?
Early Voting is probably the most secure way to vote because it is in-person, convenient, and your vote gets recorded before the Election Day rush on November 3rd.
You can also register at Early Voting — see the video I want to vote and register in one stop.
To register at Early Voting, you need:
- an NC Drivers License or last four digits of your SSN;
- proof of your current address (utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck/stub).
What do I need to bring to vote?
- If you've voted in North Carolina before, you don't need to show ID to vote.
- If you're a first-time voter who registered by mail, and DIDN’T provide your driver's license number OR the last 4 digits of your Social Security number on your registration form, you WILL need to show ID to vote.
- Acceptable ID forms include: a driver's license or state ID; US Passport; employee ID; student ID; military ID; or a copy of a utility bill, bank statement or paycheck.
- If you are unable to provide ID, you will still be able to vote a provisional ballot and can bring one of these documents to the board of elections prior to canvas.

I want to get my voting rights restored.
Individuals who were convicted of felonies must register to vote after completing their sentences (including probation, parole, or post-supervision).
Your rights are automatically restored when you complete your sentence - you do not need to do anything special. (Please see the video I want to register to vote.)
If you have a misdemeanor, or are awaiting trial for any criminal charge, you are eligible to vote if you register. (Please see the video I want to register to vote.)
It is not necessary, but you may request your Certificate of Restoration of Forfeited Rights of Citizenship from your releasing officer (N.C. Gen. Stat. § 13-2). This may make it easier should you encounter any problems.
